Agnes, prior to her surgery

Agnes was a stray rat, found cowering from some boys who were
throwing rocks at her. One of the boys had found a brick and was about to
crush her to death when a young good Samaritan stepped in. He stopped them
and took her home, then called our rescue for help. Agnes had a tumor
nearly as large as her body that required delicate surgery if she was to
survive. Our vet volunteer, Kay, was up to the challenge and performed the
surgery that freed her of the benign, yet certainly cumbersome weight she
had been living with. Today, Agnes is a happy girl, living with Kay and
her family who chose to adopt her officially. This little homeless rat,
surely one of the most helpless and tragic creatures we have encountered,
lives happily ever after thanks to one kid who cared enough to speak up
for her.
